Hailiang Foreign Language School Organizational Structure

Hailiang Foreign Language School has campuses in Feicheng, Shandong Province,

Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, and its flagship campus is in Zhuji, Zhejiang Province.

In the Zhuji campus, approximately 12,000 students attend the different schools within Hailiang Education Park, and approximately 5,000 of these students are in the international program. In order to manage 5,000 students, the different departments within Hailiang Foreign Language School are divided into smaller academies. Each academy is overseen by an academy leader and a vice-principal, who is in charge of the entire department.

The differences between the international program and the basic Chinese K-12 education system include:

  • English classes taught by both Chinese teachers and native English speakers.
  • Science and mathematics courses taught in English as a part of a parallel curriculum alongside the Chinese science and mathematics courses.
  • Cambridge International and International Baccalaureate courses available for international students and Chinese students seeking to study abroad.
  • HSK (Mandarin Chinese proficiency test) classes for international students, organized based on students’ language proficiency.

Hailiang Foreign Language School is a candidate school** for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme & Diploma Programme and is pursuing authorization as an IB World School.

IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.

**Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme or the IB Career-related Certificate (IBCC). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme is a curriculum framework designed for students aged 3 to 12.  The PYP transdisciplinary framework focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both at school and beyond. Informed by research into how students learn, how educators teach, and the principles and practice of effective assessment, the programme places a powerful emphasis on inquiry-based learning.

WHAT THE PYP OFFERS STUDENTS

By choosing to implement the PYP, Hailiang Foreign Language School’s International College develops students’ academic, social and emotional wellbeing, focusing on international-mindedness and strong personal values. The PYP nurtures independent learning skills, encouraging every student to take responsibility for their learning.

The programme incorporates local and global issues into the curriculum, asking students to look at six related, transdisciplinary themes and to consider the links between them. The themes include ‘who we are’, ‘where we are in place and time’ and ‘how the world works’.

The PYP focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside.

In promoting this aim, the programme is committed to developing the attributes of the IB learner profile among its students.
